After settling in Arizona and New Mexico in 1926, I went to high school in a little Mexican town in southern New Mexico. In 1934, my sister Micky married Jim Shepard, we were living in Los Angeles. A girlfriend and I foolishly decided to go hitch-hiking. In those days it was quite an adventure *not so now!). I stayed in Los Angeles, got a job working nights in a cafe and a happy-go-lucky time followed. I married my beloved husband, Bill McAndrews, in September 1936. A little three room house behind our landlady was our first home. In a year, our only child, Wayne, was born. Six weeks before, Micky had a little girl, Teddy. The two kids grew up together and always seemed more like brother and sister than cousins." |
